Just in case you were bored, I thought I'd have a go at making you even more so. Here's a picture of my desktop at work.

Well it would seem an entire year of Uni has flown by, it went pretty quickly. All that's left to do are two exams, but all lectures have finished. That leaves me with a bit of time on my hands, from now until late September. I think I'm going to have to get a job I could do with the money and it's better than doing nothing for months.

The first year of Uni has been mostly uninteresting with exception to two lectures namely Operating Systems and Networks and the harder Computer Architecture. Everything else has been stuff I already know such as Web Dev with HTML and Web Dev with PHP, incredibly basic and boring stuff like an Introduction to Programming with Java and Introduction to Object Orientated Programming with Java and stuff I just really didn't want to know like Systems in Organisations and Systems Analysis.

In defence the first year is a common year that all computer and computer science student take regardless of course. Next year should hopefully be more tailored to my chosen degree software engineering.

Performance wise I have been doing rather well, mostly A's with a few B's so far but then again like I said before, it's a common year and it's designed with the purpose of bringing everyone up to scratch - even those who can't use computers. So nothing too hard has been thrown at us yet but I expect that to change next year.

Doing my end of module tests at Uni now, two down two to go. The test on Operating Systems and Networks was fairly easy, then there was the Systems in Organisations test. 500 words on how barcodes are used in supermarkets, difficult to write 500 words about that. Tomorrow is my Java test followed by HTML web development. The HTML test is going to be a real challenge Cheeky

Good thing is I have two weeks of after the tests.

I thought it would never come to an end Laughing.

The first week at Uni has been a rather odd one due to a number of reasons such as IT buildings not being finished on time causing my timetable to be incorrect and working on a "team challenge" an exercise I think designed to help you get to know one another, only I was already getting along well with some guys only to be put in a group without them. A rather odd way of doing things if you ask me.

The challenge was to create a short (given that we had three days) introduction web site for new comers to the Uni. My site http://home.wlv.ac.uk/~0368508/challenge/ came fourth out of around 30 groups. The winning site was actually one that didn't work but because people found this amusing they voted for it.

A surprise came when we were told we would have to present the sites. I hate speaking to an audience with a passion. My mind tends to go blank unless I prepare (as it did today). There must have been around 200 people I think and it was the first time I spoke to an audince of such size and had to use a PA system. Needless to say I hated every minute of it lol.

Anyway it's over and I'm glad of that, Now I can get on with settling in with the routine of Uni life. Contrary to what many people believe there has been no copious drinking. In fact I have had only one pint and that was had today.

The first day of Uni came and passed. Today I got sorted into tutor groups and met my tutor for the next year and filled in a couple of forms about my computing abilities. One of the questions on a form was "Have you used Linux?" Yay! I thought Winking

Apart from that not a great deal more happened. I spent a good couple of hours exploring and familiarising myself with Wolverhampton city centre. At the end of the day I met up with what I assumed to be the rest of the computer year undergraduates in a rather crowded room. Not much was said here as the computer was broken and so the would be presented presentation never was. We were told of a prize of a Palm PDA for each of the team members of groups which we shall be sorted into by ability. A challenge I'll find only too easy no doubt.

Uni looks like it should be interesting and hopefully will give me a chance to be mentally challenged by programming tasks. The mention of Linux has given me some hope that people at least know what it is and so perhaps I wont have to say hello to Bill as I do my work on Windows?
