Owning too much

For a while now I have been thinking that I own too many things and owning too many things is not good for things are enemies of time. The more things you want the more money you need to get them and the less money and time you have for other activities.

I know someone who spends most of her time living away from home. She is always ready to pick up her bags and move somewhere else if needs be because she has taken very little with her. I have wondered what it's like to live like that. My room is full of distractions, it feels as if there are endless things I am able to do each vying for my attention. Often I can't decided what I will dedicate my spare time to and so end up doing nothing at all. If I had less choice making a decision would be much easier.

There are also the things in my room that I buy and never use again, these need to be sold. I need to analyse everything I own and get rid of as much as I can. I think a cluttered environment makes for a cluttered mind. In my room I have two three games consoles; a PS3, Wii and PS2. Two handheld games systems; a DS and PSP all complete with numerous games which I never play and never will, various space wasting accessories for them, a HDTV that's lucky to get an hours usage a week, a THX certified set of 5.1 speakers that admittedly get used more than the TV but still not often. Three guitars, two amplifiers, a flute, harmonica, two faldulaes, an electronic drum kit, one 76-key keyboard, one 76-key semi-weighted midi keyboard, a set of pan pipes and a fife all of which are used once in a blue moon. One desktop computer, one mac mini, a small linux computer and three laptops and a 22" screen, three keyboards, two mice and another set of speakers for them. These are just some of the things that I consider I actually use... I also have useless items I know I will never use such as old games consoles like the SNES, Gamecube and so on, a replica lightsaber, a replica sword spare and unused PC parts, books I've yet to read, DVD's I'm yet to see yet were bought months, in some cases years ago.

Okay... so you're probably getting the picture by now. I want to cut back on the amount of things I own. I want to feel as if I have less things to eat up my time with. Though... the difficult thing comes in deciding what to get rid of. I don't need six computers/laptops in my room right, perhaps two at most as one is used as a media centre. Somethings are harder to come to a conclusion about, I seldom use games consoles, should I sell them? What if I actually want to play them at a later date?

Something has to be done, now, where to start... Confused
