Off to the LUG!

Wednesday was the first time I have been to a LUG. I had considered going to one before but never really did anything about it until I was invited along.

A LUG is basically a group discussing GNU/Linux and other computer related things, some have a formal style, some informal. This one was certainly informal and was a great laugh Grining Discussions seemed to range from mail server's to bog roll stalactites Laughing.

The only downside is the distance, it's around eight miles from me and catching a bus that far is a pain and as soon as I get in from work I have to leave again which wouldn't be so bad if I didn't work three miles from where the LUG meets Laughing. Still it's worth the effort travelling there Cheeky

8 miles? Oh man, couldn't you have taken your rocket-powered skateboard?

How many people would you say were there?

I have yet to go to a LUG. Especially now that I'm a BSD convert, I may not fit in as well Smileing . However, I looked up the LUG around my area, and they're not 100% focused on Linux anymore. The San Diego LUG became the San Diego Open-Source Software Organization.

I suppose I'll fit in after all Winking

Well it's not rocket powered just electric, read the blog harry there's a pic of it.

There were fourteen of us there which is a fairly large group I think.

You should go along Bwongar, even if it's a Linux group it's not like using BSD excludes you from going, you still have the same still to talk about like open source news, new technolgies, Gnome etc.

DH, Bwongar to the best of my knowlege is not registed at lostheaven.co.uk. I met him via the punBB forums.

14 people use Linux Tim? That's a horrible understatment. Granted there's no where near the amount of people using Linux as MS but that's only becuase MS is a monopoly.

The point I was making is that even though Windows is more acepted (becuase people don't know better things exist Cheeky ) it's not liked enough for one to want to attend a Windows User Group.
